NID Entrance Exam Details

National Institute of Design (NID), already having 6 established centers in major cities of India; offers admissions and career making options in/for Design and Creative fields which include Bachelor of Design (B. Des 4 years ) and Master of Design (M. Des 2.5 Years) programmes.

The selection process for students to opt for any programme at NID is done through NID Entrance Exam, which is bifurcated into to parts.

  1. NID DAT Prelims (Design Aptitude Test)
  2. NID  DAT Mains (Portfolio & Personal Interview)

Candidatesn who appear and clear the first Stage (DAT Prelims) for NID entrance exam are shortlisted  for the second stage, which is the DAT Mains. NID DAT Prelims and NID DAT Main both are NID entrance exam, which are conducted by NID itself. The Design Aptitude Test comprises of MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) including a drawing question, whereas the DAT Mains round is a personal interview round, where the student is evaluated on the basis of creative thinking and also on the basis of their creative portfolio.

Talking about number of seats, NID offers 100 intake in B. Des Programmes and a sum of 275 in M. Des Program which also include reversed categories students.

Recently NID started offering new programs such Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) but only at two of their campuses which are NID, Vijayawada and NID, Kurukshetra. Both of these two campuses are independent and autonomous institutes which falls under DIPP, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. (Offers 4 years graduate diploma in design)

THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

Following are the main eligibility criteria for NID entrance exam.

A set of conditions required to be fulfilled by aspirants in order to become eligible for applying and appearing for NID DAT. This includes eligibility requirements like educational background, age, qualifying exam and marks, etc. Before applying for the entrance exam for admissions to Bachelor of Design (B. Des) as well as Master of Design (M. Des) at National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, NID Gandhinagar and NID Bengaluru campuses, aspiring candidates must carefully go through the eligibility criteria of NID.

1. B. Des Programme:

  • Age Limit: The candidate should be 20 years of age on or before July 1, 2017 (For NID 2017 Eligibility Criteria), (Reserved category candidates will get relaxation of three years in age).
  • Educational Qualification: Candidate should have passes 10+2 or its equivalent exam from a recognized board of education.

2. M. Des Programme:

  • Age Limit: The candidate should be minimum 30 years as on or before July 1, 2017 (For NID 2017 Eligibility Criteria), (Reserved category candidates will get relaxation of three years in age).
  • Educational Qualification: Candidates applying for the Masters Programme must have obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline. The applicant must hold Diploma in Design from a recognized Institute if the University.
